New Nan + the One Nite Stands EP “High-Caliber” Bandcamp Release on February 19th!!

This Pandemic has been bad for my social life. And my performing life. But it's been good for helping me work on and finish some things. Like the Nan + the One Nite Stands EP!

This EP started in 2017, when I went to NYC and recorded initial tracks on Iguana and Space with Mark Ospovat. Mark nurtured these songs since they were seedlings (and at live shows too- remember those?) and created the catchy basslines that are at the center of Iguana and Space. He also encouraged me -even from years ago when I was living in NYC- to have the most fun possible with songs and characters. This has become one of my “making art” tenets. Thanks MFO! Even if the ship goes down, I will have as much fun as possible, and will probably make you do some dance moves as we are sinking.

Ok back to KC 2017-2019. After playing on a lot of Kansas City stages with Pat Tomek on drums (The Rainmakers, Deco Auto, Broken Heart Syndrome) and Lizz Weiler on bass (Vedettes, The Mad Kings) as my One Nite Stands band, I recorded 3 more songs (Yeah, Lion, Other People's Feelings) with Pat at Largely Studios in 2019. Pat and Lizz helped illuminate not only my rock n roll songs, but also my wild improv tales, following me at a moment's notice in Other People’s Feelings to “MONTREAL! OR MAYBE A LAKE? LET’S GO TO BOTH!" I am so thankful they got in the One Nite Stands boat with me. Especially to Montreal.

I must mention 2 wonderful KC dancers and singers- Don Dawn and Tracy Flowers. They do backup vocals on Space and Iguana and Lion. Having the time and “space” to work out song ideas with them has been such a treat! Our dance practice’s in Dawn's mirrored living room over the years have been a real boon to my creative process (and my mental health). Turns out Dancing it Out with friends is good for you.

Lastly, working with Chase Horseman on mixing and producing this EP was a little light in the darkness of this past year. I feel like I won some kind of lottery to be able to work with someone so talented. I was a bit stuck on how to make these songs sound fuller, and Chase really helped me find the textural and sonic arrangements for each song. With patience and perspective, I might add! They could often translate sounds I was hearing in my head, but didn't know how to make happen. That, my friends, is thrilling. I am so thankful to Chase for helping these songs become something better than I imagined.

I know this post is a long squishy-hearted thank you letter. I can’t help it. To have an idea of something and not really know how you’re going to get there is a murky journey….and I feel lucky that I had great collaborators along for each step of the way. I didn’t know if I could actually do this 3+ years ago. And here we are. If that’s not worth celebrating, I don’t know what is.

A little footnote. or addendum. There’s more I wanna say. Because I can!
Additional thanks to Ian Dobyns for mastering the EP! (Ian also plays drums in Dreamgirl and Chase the Horseman).
Also big love and thanks to Angela Carlucci , Leslie Graves , Julie Delano, and Susan Hwang for all their encouragement and dancing over the years. Get ready for more!
